My personal breastfeeding story, a story of empowerment

I owe so much to the lactation consultant who supported me with breastfeeding my first daughter.

My baby and I had a rough start after birth, mostly because of inaccurate information and lack of support. Excruciating nipple pain, poor weight gain, feelings of despair and hopelessness…Breastfeeding had become an insurmountable personal challenge.

I knew I would leave no stone unturned to breastfeed my baby. But other than that, I was clueless. I had no idea how I could deal with the numerous issues I was facing.

Day and night, I was searching on the Internet for breastfeeding tips and support. At some point, I came across a Greek website dedicated to breastfeeding. I immediately realized that was what I needed.

When I called the lactation consultant for advice and help, I instantly felt trust and hope. She reassured me on the phone there were many things I could do to increase my production and breastfeed my baby exclusively even after a rough start.

And that’s what happened.

The consultant was by my side every step of the way supporting and encouraging me.

She helped me re-establish my breastfeeding pattern and bring my baby back to the breast. Within two weeks we managed to get rid of the bottle. That was an amazing moment for me!

I could finally enjoy the surge of oxytocin that goes along with every successful and satisfactory breastfeeding session.

To this day, I feel deep gratitude for her help and empowering presence.

I will never forget her magic touch.

She is the reason I have become a postpartum doula with a strong focus on breastfeeding.
