What Is A Birth Plan
As your pregnancy advances and your due date is approaching, have you thought about birth and labor? How would you like it to be? – Who would you like to be there, by your side, accompany and support you? – Which medical practices are you comfortable with and which you ‘d rather avoid? – How about the first moments with your new baby?
One thing is certain: a woman’s birthing experience can impact profoundly the future of her family. So, this is where a birth plan can be of value. There are as many different plans as women. But at the end of the day it all boils down to the same principle: choice.
A birth plan is essentially an outline of the mother’s preferences, a document designed to prepare her for the physical and emotional aspects of birth and labor. It helps expecting parents plan ahead for different scenarios and enables them to make decisions about each possibility. A birth plan is also a means of communicating with birth partners, caregivers, and hospital staff.
Drawing up your birth plan can be a stand-alone process, or a part of our prenatal meetings.
Postnatal • Postpartum Doula • Postpartum plan
What can I do for you as your postpartum doula?
We focus on your needs, wishes and expectations as you are navigating through the first days of life with your baby. In particular, we can discuss any or all of the following:
- Basic baby care (diapering, bathing, dressing)
- Support newborn breast-feeding / chest-feeding / feeding
- Baby’s sleep patterns
- Spending time with your newborn
- Caring for older siblings
- Self-care / Caring for the mother (nutrition, rest, emotional support)
- Listening to mother’s birth experience, concerns, fears, dreams
- Referral for support groups, healthcare professionals, books, useful gadgets, etc.
- Preparing and serving light meals
- Light housekeeping and baby laundry
- Holding or feeding the baby, while the mother is resting, showering or caring for older siblings
What Is A Postpartum Plan
As your due date is drawing closer, you may be thinking how your life will change. You may have heard how challenging the first days postpartum can be for new parents. Although there is merit to this, it need not be completely unpredictable and overwhelming. That’s why, it’s important to consider your preferences and options, and see how you can make the transition to parenthood as smooth as possible. It’s a good idea to consider drawing up a postpartum plan.
Some useful aspects you can think of and include in your plan are the following:
- Sleep and rest
- Newborn behaviour patterns
- Parental leave options
- Newborn feeding method
- Meals
- Household chores
- Caring for older children and other responsibilities
- Self-care, support and mental health

How we can meet
There are many options available to meet each mother’s/family’s specific preferences and needs:
Get In Touch
Remote meeting
via video call- Choose this option if you live outside of Attica, want to have a meeting as soon as possible, need to talk and share thoughts and feelings, or need information
Visit
to mother’s/family’s home- Choose this option if you would like to meet in your own place and discuss ideas and suggestions that are perfectly suited to your own circumstances during pregnancy or the postnatal period. I will be more than happy to visit you at home, especially if:
- You need practical help with baby care in the first few days after returning home
- You are looking for support with breastfeeding or feeding the baby
- You need ideas for organizing your new life with your new member – particularly if you have older children
- You wish to open your heart and share thoughts and feelings about this very special time in your life
Visit
to Doula’s private place- Choose this way if you live in Eastern Attica and would like to meet in person. The space is comfortable and appropriately equipped with a pregnancy ball, changing table, breastfeeding chair, etc., to demonstrate positions and movements during birth, basic baby care, breastfeeding positions, etc. It is also safe and welcoming for young children.
Language assistance
Medical liaison interpreting- As a certified professional linguist, I will be by your side during your medical consultation to convey your thoughts and emotions, and help you understand your care provider in the most accurate way. my specialty
Language assistance in the medical setting
Are you still in the process of learning to speak Greek? Is your healthcare provider uncomfortable explaining complex concepts in English? Do you find it stressful trying to communicate and not getting your message across, especially during a very sensitive period of your life, such as pregnancy and postpartum?
Then, you can rely on me to help you maneuver through your medical appointments, stress-free, worry-free and confidently.
As a certified professional linguist, I can accompany you to your medical consultation and help you communicate effortlessly with your doctor or midwife. With my discreet assistance, you can express your thoughts and feelings clearly, ask questions and get answers, so you can feel well-informed, understood and confident you can make informed decisions about every aspect of your pregnancy, birth and postpartum period.
For the time being, I am offering medical interpreting services between English and Greek. I am also preparing some amazing future services in French, German and Spanish.
